Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has long been recognized for its efficiency in retail point-of-sale systems. However, its potential in upstream supply chain links has been overlooked. TradeLink Technologies has introduced RFID Scan & Verify solutions, enhancing packaging functions. Today, TradeLink’s suppliers easily transition to RFID, optimizing packaging processes. This capability has sparked an RFID technology wave among TradeLink’s partners.

About TradeLink:

Established in 1999, TradeLink Technologies aims to create progressive supply chain solutions. We provide visibility and batch distribution solutions to over 350 global brands, retailers, and logistics companies, with a network spanning 9,000+ suppliers across 70 countries. Our solutions focus on lightweight or cloud-based approaches to maximize efficiency and client benefits throughout the supply chain. Supported by a global workforce, software deployment is flexible and seamless.

The RFID wave began when RL began tagging their products with RFID for retail use. TradeLink has supported RL for nearly two decades, providing compliance packaging solutions to automate their supply chain. Thus, when RL’s suppliers considered leveraging RFID tags to enhance packaging processes, TradeLink designed RFID-enabled processes tailored to this brand.

“Given RFID’s serialization capabilities, improving this technology was inevitable.” — Daniel Entac, CEO, TradeLink Technologies Inc.

TradeLink has leveraged RFID technology for years in its Work-In-Progress tracking solutions. With this experience, we quickly applied RFID to our Barcode Scan & Pack software. Hence, suppliers using our Scan & Pack solution seamlessly transitioned to RFID without concerns about deployment time or costs.

How does RF Scan & Verify work?

Traditional Scan & Pack requires suppliers to scan each item as they pack cartons. The software verifies each scan against purchase orders (PO) or packing plans, automatically printing carton labels. With RFID, this process is significantly streamlined.

RF Scan & Verify allows suppliers to pack a carton first, then verify all items inside simultaneously. RFID technology does not require direct scanning; items need only be within the RFID reader’s range, capable of scanning hundreds of tags at once.

Our RFID solution supports EPC exchange among partners, significantly enhancing traceability and origin visibility. EPC serves as an authentication mechanism to resolve disputes related to differences, increasing supply chain reliability with unique identification/validation at the item level.

In our collaboration, TradeLink and suppliers observed a 40-60% reduction in packing time compared to Scan & Pack solutions. While Scan & Pack achieves over 90% accuracy, RF Scan & Verify boasts 99.9% accuracy. Based on these impressive results, RFID-enabled packaging processes have been readily adopted by suppliers.

RL and other brands actively recommend their suppliers upgrade to this packaging solution. With over a third of shipping volume RFID-supported, TradeLink predicts RF Scan & Verify will dominate RL’s packaging processes in the near future.

“This sets a new gold standard for ASN compliance due to its many benefits and accuracy.” — Global Supplier Operations Director, RL
